This year the ESL program will be held at Olympic Hills Elementary School in Lake City on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday coinciding with the Seattle Public School yearly schedule. ESL students will be at a variety of levels from beginning to advanced in grades 3-5.

Interested persons should contact Susan Wallace via email (wjmsusan@earthlink.net) or at 206-498-0330. She can either answer your questions or refer them to the YWCA person who is handling volunteer screening.

Start date is September 29. There will be two short training sessions for volunteers:

1 – September 18th, 3-5 PM for the YWCA training. (The Y is our partner in this effort and will be supplying a coordinator, snacks, transportation, volunteer clearance, and other welcome infrastructure).

2 – September 22, 3-5 PM specific training for the ESL component of the program. However, if you cannot make this training I will provide additional options.

We ask each tutor to commit to one day a week for 2 hours (and 15 minutes: 2:45-5 PM). We hope to have enough tutors so that each person can work with one student; however, experienced teachers or tutors may have to work with more than one student at a time. All materials are provided as well as suggestions for appropriate lessons and activities. Creativity is welcome!

Thanks very much in advance for your support!
