Meadowbrook Community Council's Requests for Bridging The Gap Funding

1. NE 105th Street, between 39th Ave NE and John Rogers Elementary School sports field

Add 1 block of raised asphalt sidewalk* to the north side of NE 105th Street, between 39th Ave NE and the sports field at John Rogers Elementary School. Currently, pedestrians must walk at the same grade as cars with only a painted white line dividing pedestrians from cars! This is one of the major pedestrian routes used by children walking to John Rogers Elementary School. Raised sidewalk is needed to complete the sidewalk network between 35th Ave NE and John Rogers Elementary School. Alleviate flooding in current pedestrian zone, so pedestrians are not forced into traffic to avoid puddles. Add pedestrian lane to bridge so pedestrians are not forced into traffic when road narrows. (*same as asphalt sidewalk on north side of NE 105th between 35th Ave NE and 36th Ave NE.)

2. NE 98th Street and Ravenna Ave NE

Add 1 block of sidewalk on NE 98th Street to connect Ravenna Ave NE to Lake City Way. Sidewalk is needed to complete the pedestrian route between Lake City Way and Nathan Hale High School. Protect pedestrians from cars that "cut corners" when turning on this stretch of NE 98th (see tire marks in currently unpaved shoulders). Add crosswalk to intersection of NE 98th and Ravenna Ave NE to assist pedestrians who need to cross from Ravenna Ave NE to NE 98th to catch buses on Lake City Way.

3. NE 110th Street between 35th Ave NE and 38th Ave NE

Add 2 blocks of sidewalk along the south side of NE 110th Street between 35th Ave NE and 38th Ave NE to complete the sidewalk route from 35th Ave NE to John Rogers Elementary School. This is one of the major pedestrian routes used by children walking to John Rogers Elementary School. Alleviate flooding on the south side of NE 110th Street in front of properties located at 3505 and 3509 NE 110th, so pedestrians are not forced into traffic to avoid vast puddles. Add pedestrian lane to bridge, so pedestrians are not forced into traffic when road narrows.

4. NE 110th Street and 38th Ave NE

Add traffic circle at the intersection of NE 110th Street and 38th Ave NE to calm traffic going too fast along NE 110th Street. This intersection is on one of the major pedestrian routes used by children walking to John Rogers Elementary School

5. NE 103rd Street and 32nd Ave NE

Add traffic circle at the intersection of NE 103rd Street and 32nd Ave NE to calm traffic going too fast down the hill (traffic traveling northbound on 32nd Ave NE).

6. 30th Ave NE, between NE 105th and NE 113th Streets

Add speed bumps on 30th Ave NE to calm traffic going too fast between NE 105th and NE 113th Streets. This stretch of 30th Ave NE includes the block in front of Nathan Hale High School, two blocks to the south, and one block to the north.

On May 8, 2007, the Meadowbrook Community Council voted to propose the above projects for City of Seattle Bridging The Gap funding.
